The veterinary laboratory carries out its activities in two fields: animal
diseases, and food.
Animal diseases
From several samples, such as blood, animal carcasses, organs, abortion
products, milk, excrements, the technical units of Sero-Immunology on
the one hand and of Help to Diagnosis on the other hand carry out immuno-serology
tests, post-mortem examinations, bacteriology and parasitology tests.
When requested by authorities (Animal Health Veterinary Department), the laboratory
carries out the necessary analysis as part of prophylaxis and sanitary police
operations for legally infectious diseases:
- Cattle, sheep and goat brucellosis.
- Enzootic Bovine Leucosis
- Aujeszky's disease in swine.
When requested by veterinarians, individuals, Breeding organisms (Sanitary
Defence Groups), Poultry Production Cooperatives, breeders, Departmental
Federation of Hunters, the laboratory carries out analysis:
- to diagnose diseases in mammals and in breeding birds
- for the sanitary control of animals during business transactions
- to determine the breeding immune status concerning
some non legally infectious diseases
- to carry out epidemiology surveys
- for the sanitary observation of wildlife
Food
The Food Bacteriology technical unit carries out such kind of analysis. They
mostly concern food, from raw materials to ready-for-consumption products:
slaughter meat, poultry meat and giblets, meat-based products, dairy products,
egg-based products, pastries, seafood, vegetable products.
The laboratory has a food chemistry small activity.
The laboratory customers are the Government (Food Hygiene Veterinary Laboratory),
manufacturers, craftsmen, restaurant owners, breeders (farm products), individuals.
An important part of the activity in diagnostics help and in food bacteriology
concerns poultry productions which hold a foreground place in Gers.

Monday through Friday
8.00 AM to 0.30 AM
and 1.30 PM to 5.00 PM
